The Issue
We know that chemistry plays a vital role in creating a sustainable future, and we are committed to continuing to innovate and improve our processes to make our industry even more environmentally friendly.
In September 2022, former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced an $85 million campaign against the expansion of U.S. chemicals and plastics industry. This will directly impact the chemical industry and the 135,000+ workers across Texas, Louisiana, and Ohio.
This campaign is being carried out by organizations pushing fear-based narratives and ignoring the essential role of chemistry in modern life. We simply cannot stand by while outsiders attempt to kill good-paying American jobs, threaten our industry’s right to operate and grow, and push jobs and production overseas.
BLOOMBERG’S CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE U.S CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IS “BEYOND COMPREHENSION”
- The campaign’s goal is to shut down or halt expansion of over 120 facilities across the U.S. that would produce comparatively fewer emissions.
- It ignores the essential role of chemistry and its impact on our climate, modern life, and advancing sustainability.
- Bloomberg’s campaign will push U.S. manufacturing and production to China.
BOTTOM LINE
America’s chemical industry has reduced emissions by 12 percent since 2017 – all because of the innovations we are building help make our world more sustainable.
